Senior Capstone Project

Fall Semester 2024

Inspired by the "Living Mosaics" concept, it serves as a hub for community connection, celebrating Denver’s growing diversity. The center features a food court, grocery store, bar, salon, retail outlets, offices, and an arcade/bowling alley, catering to business travelers and local visitors.

Brief: This project celebrates the beauty of shared experiences by creating a welcoming, multifaceted space. Designed to foster interaction and inclusivity, the Tower Center meets the needs of travelers, professionals, and residents, all while showcasing Denver’s cultural richness.

Solution: By repurposing an underutilized office building into a dynamic marketplace, the Tower Center addresses the need for diverse amenities near DIA. The design integrates community-focused spaces, blending functionality and aesthetics to create a memorable environment where people can connect, collaborate, and thrive.

Spring Semester 2024

Overview: This project reimagines the Sci-Arc Campus in California as a vibrant community hub. The design transforms the educational setting into a multi-functional space that provides housing, amenities, and gathering spaces for community engagement.

Brief: Students were tasked with converting the existing Sci-Arc Campus into a community space that serves a broader population. The new design needed to integrate residential units with shared amenities to foster connection and support diverse needs, including accessible housing, recreational areas, and spaces for social interaction.

Solution: The design approach focused on creating an inclusive, community-oriented space that balances private and public areas. Key features include housing units for various residents, communal gardens and recreational zones for interaction, and multi-use rooms adaptable for events or workshops. The layout prioritizes accessibility and sustainability, using green building practices and maximizing natural light to create a welcoming and eco-friendly environment.

Design Concept: This design integrates the concept of mutual aid, where elements work together to support a shared goal. In a sober living or rehab facility, this fosters community, empowerment, and recovery. Textures and patterns layer to symbolize “strength in numbers,” while collaborative spaces, areas for reflection, and peer mentorship programs reinforce a supportive environment.
